Birth
of the Pune Institute of Computer Technology (PICT)
Realizing
the importance of Computer Technology in the evolution of
human society, it was soon realized that the best starting
point would be to train our youth in the basics as well as
frontiers of this technology. The society promoted the
PICT , a degree college offering the B.E. course in
computer engineering of the Pune university from august
1983. It also obtained in 1995 accreditation to pune
university for its B.E. degree course in Electronics and
Telecommunications. PICT has well qualified teaching
faculty, and the training is supplemented by expert
visiting staff from the industry who help in project guidance as well.
PICT has
well equipped computer laboratories today, which include
the finest in hardware, valuable licensed software and the
most current technological set up. More than two hundred
machines connected in a LAN configuration with open access
to students 24 hrs. a day is an enviable facility with
connectivity on Internet across the country and the world.
PICT’s
library consists of more than eleven thousand books and
valuable journals. This is considered to be one of the
leading libraries in Pune in computer engineering.
The first
batch of B.E. computer engineering students graduated in
1987 from the institute with 89% result. Last year keeping
with tradition, out of 174 distinctions in Pune
University, PICT accounted for 61 and out of 282 First
Classes in Pune university, PICT accounted for 48.
Over 250
of our students have been admitted to Universities in the
USA for higher studies or employment. The feed-back from
the students indicated that the quality of training at
PICT has been well acknowledged. The institute has an
active chapter of the Institute of Electronics and
Electrical Engineering (IEEE, US). It holds an all India
Project competition every year where judges are invited
from industries. PICT has the privilege of winning the
largest numbers of prizes so far. The institute also has
an alumni center, which keeps the ex-students who are
abroad are also active participants.
